Arnel Pineda Back in the Philippines

I'm a few days behind. I received the Google Alert for this news item on the 9th. Arnel Pineda arrived at the Manila airport on the evening of October 8th and the video of it was broadcast on the 9th. The webcast is at "Journey frontman Arnel Pineda back in RP, to do local concerts (video)", but you can view it here through the magic of embedding:

According to Arnel, he performed 69 shows as the lead singer of Journey before the tour ended. I have no information on when he'll return to the US, but several sources say he'll be here (in the Philippines) long enough to do several concerts with other bands including his former band, "The Zoo".

My wife, over Skype, asked me (jokingly, I hope) when I was going to Manila to see him. I hate traveling in Manila. If he comes to Olongapo, Subic Bay or even Clark, I'll go see him. Otherwise, it isn't happening.

  1. I love Journey, but I've never seen them. I love the song "Don't stop believing". It's super. It was on the soundtrack for "The wedding singer" Also super!

I'm not a traveled man. Why is it that you dislike traveling to Manila? Please excuse my ignorance, but I was born in Houston and I now live in Spring (20 miles north of Houston).

  2. Just click on the Manila link in the post. It leads back to the other blog where I show you why I don't like Manila. By the way, I've been in Spring, in Spring. :-)

Seriously, it was some years ago when I got stuck with a 24 hour layover at Houston. I don't remember anything though because I was 3 sheets to the wind before we got there. I don't even remember what convenience store we stopped at along the way.

I understand why you have a distaste for traveling to Manila. The traffic is horrible plus the endless noise generated by drivers of jeepneys and bus. Why can't they just stop blowing their horns?

Journey are so awesome…I hadn't listened to them in years when they all of a sudden came up on an unrelated station on Pandora (I both love and hate when that happens)

I share your opinions of the noise created by all those horns – a cacophony. But the Philipines are a fantastic place to visit and to live..

I haven't heard Journey for ages, I shall have to listen to them again. Shame I can't get to the Philippines to see the concerts if he does them.

Open Arms is one of the best Journey songs – one that I enjoy listening to the most. And good thing, Arnel's version is at par if not better than that of the original.
